Staveley Camp Site
/

A great place to stay

  Attractions and Things to

  • Sharplin Falls Walkway - walk upstream from camp with permission from local farmland owner fills in a day return

  • Drive to Mt Somers - Woolshed Creek carpark and walk to view Blackburn mines, water canyons and quarry on D.O.C land

  • Local Honey Apiary owned by Midland Seeds, still managed by long time ex owner Mr John Syme

  • Geological Rock Museum right opposite Staveley Store

  • Campsite nestled right beside bushland, so very suitable for a bush study and stream study, as the river is just through the existing track

  • Orienteering around site, easy to set up yourselves

  • Iceskating ring based in Staveley, where curling is an option and skate hire etc available during some winter months only

  • Some school groups do the whole Mt Somers Walkway, taking them 3 days and 2 nights to complete

The above list, of great ideas, come from the schools (all from outside of Mid  Canterbury) who enjoy making use of our wonderful newly renovated facilities on  a yearly or biannual basis.  We have regular schools from Christchurch,  Timaru, Fairlie, Geraldine, Oamaru as they all find it very affordable for their  pupils/students at a reasonable cost.
